Farsley Farfield Primary School

Year 6 06.11.25

Welcome back after what we hope was a restful half-term break. The children have had a good week in Year 6, cracking straight on with some great writing and some fun (and slightly gross) science experiments.

English

This week we have begun our new class text – War Horse – another text written by Michael Morpurgo. We began the week discussing the first chapter and thinking about the unusual choice of having an animal narrate the story! Year 6 have written some lovely recounts imagining themselves as Albert from the story meeting Joey (our narrator and main character) for the first time.

Some examples here

Science

We have reached the end of our science unit on microorganisms this week and the children worked together to plan an experiment to find out the dirties place in the school! In pairs, they decided where they would wipe a slice of bread and then bagged up the bread with a measured amount of water to see which bread grows the most mould. Children chose locations such as the cloakrooms, the bathroom and various keyboards throughout the key stage 2 classrooms. We will look at the bread again in two weeks so watch this space!

Maths

This week we have been focusing on adding and subtracting fractions. This has involved simple fractions and mixed number work. The children have found this a little challenging as they need to find a common denominator before they can add or subtract. We have grown in confidence throughout the week and I have attached a video link to support with mathletics homework.
