Phonics

This week we have learnt the digraph ‘ss’. We have been practising sounding out and blending lots of words. Our hard to read and spell word this week is ‘pull’. We have read 2 books together – ‘Get Up Sam!’ and ‘Get the Duck’. We have looked at the author, illustrator, speech bubbles, thinking bubbles and characters.

Please keep practising the phoneme flashcards and the hard to read and spell flashcards. The children are doing well recognising the phonemes we have learnt so far.

Maths

In maths the children have built on their subitising knowledge. The children have enjoyed saying the number of sounds they can hear to drum beats and claps.

We have looked at the arrangement of number 4 and learnt more about the numberblock 4 too. You could pick 4 objects at home and arrange them in different ways.

Road Safety

The children enjoyed a visit from the Road Safety Team. They talked about looking left and right when crossing the road and making sure they hold an adults hand too. They also learnt a song to remind them to put their seatbelt on in the car.

RE

In Re we learned about what it means to be a good friend. We read the story ‘The Kindest Red’ and looked at the ‘circle of friends’ statue from Mexico. Then we discussed how we can show that we are good friends in school. The children had some brilliant suggestions, like playing with someone or helping someone who is hurt.

PE

In PE we worked on agility this week. We warmed up pretending to be different modes of transport and then completed a challenge where we had to move around the hall and only touch spots of a particular colour. We also had a challenge, where the children touched spots that were in a zigzag pattern. This proved quite tricky to start with, but the children quickly got the hang of it.

Everything else…

Have a lovely weekend, one more week to go!
