Year 1 News – 5.9.25

We have had a fantastic first week in Year 1! It has been wonderful getting to know all of the children better and they are settling into the routines of Year 1 well.

Reading

This week, we have heard the children read. They have brought home two reading books and a new reading record. Please read with your child at least four times a week for around 10 minutes and write in your child’s reading record that you have done so.

Phonics

We are using a new phonics scheme. It is called ‘Essential Letters and Sounds’. Click here to look at their website. We will be holding an information evening, for all parents and carers, on Wednesday 17th September at 5pm. This session will take place in the Year 1 classrooms. We hope that you can all join us to learn how to support your child at home.

Art

The children have been learning about self-portraits. This week, they have all painted a picture of themselves.

They also used pencils to draw a self-portrait in their new sketch books.

Exploring our new classrooms

The children have had lots of fun exploring their new classrooms and outside area.

PE

We will start our PE lessons next week. Our PE days are Monday and Thursday. Please can your child come to school in their PE kit on those days.

History

We will be starting our history lessons next week. For our lessons, we will be exploring how they have changed since being a baby. If possible, please send in a named photo of your child as a baby or toddler to support these lessons. Alternatively, you could email the picture to alexandra.galbraith@farsleyfarfield.org.uk or jessica.hardwick@farsleyfarfield.org.uk and we can print them in school.

Newsletter

A newsletter has been sent home today with lots of information about Year 1. It is also attached here.

Have a lovely weekend.
