Farsley Farfield Primary School

Two Sunny Trips to Burnsall!

Both Year 4 classes had fantastic trips to Burnsall this week, made even better (if a little sweatier!) by the glorious sunshine. All children completed a 2-mile walk along the River Wharfe to the Hebden Suspension Bridge, which made for a fun and wobbly river crossing! On the walk we made a number of stops for map reading and studying the physical and human geography. We learnt that scars are exposed cliffs of limestone and we were able to spot Wilfred’s Scar and Loup Scar. We also enjoyed seeing people (and dogs) swimming, spotting fish in the water and observing the ducklings.

After our walk we found a shady spot for our lunch, and then carried out traffic surveys and surveys of members of the public, giving us some data to compare with our previous visits to Leeds. The children were very confident and respectful when asking their questions, and we found lots of friendly people to speak to. A number of people commented as we were walking how polite our children were – well done for being such good Farfield representatives.

4SN managed to fit in a quick walk up to St Wilfrid’s Church, also passing a school and a nursery, which gave us the opportunity to compare the buildings we saw in Leeds with those in Burnsall.

Finally, we all stopped for a well-deserved ice cream, kindly served to us by the Red Lion pub.

We hope you enjoy having a look through the photos from our trip.
