Happy half-term

The children have had a great start to Y6 and we have been very impressed with their efforts so far. A huge well done and time for a well-deserved rest.

PE

As part of our PE curriculum, 6D have been working on a dance linked to ‘Musical Theatre.’ Here is a video of their final piece. See if you can spot times where they all danced together with shared choreography and times where they made up their own moves. Mrs Dobkin thought it was a super effort. 6J will be completing this in the next half term so keep your eyes peeled for their dance in December’s blogs.

English

As promised, the children have completed their work on their imaginary islands, and they have worked incredibly hard. We are so proud of the effort they have put in — their final drafts look wonderful!

Maths

This week, we have started the first of two fractions units in Year 6. The children have made a great start, showing confidence in simplifying fractions, finding equivalents, and ordering and comparing them. Fractions make up a significant part of the SATs papers, so this is an especially important unit for the children.

Please take a look at the Corbett maths website as it has lots of useful videos on the topics we cover.

Geography

We have come to the end of our work on natural disasters. The children have been really engaged in this topic and produced some lovely work. Here is a link to a folder which displays our circle books and some work on tsunamis we did this week.

Trip to the Royal Armouries

We had two fantastic visits this week to the Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds. Children were put through their paces by Corporal Gibbs and taught how to march and hold their rifles to attention! Then it was off to the medical unit to work with Nurse Goodwin who taught the children about the potential medical issues which may have occurred on the front line and how they might be treated. Children had to dissect jelly wounds and analyse shrapnel; bandage each other with care; and examine artefacts to decide what might help and what might hinder recovery.
