Kitchen Disco!

What an exciting week we have had! On Monday, some fruit were having a disco in our classrooms!

They left us a book to enjoy. We have also really enjoyed listening to this song.

Throughout the week, the fruit enjoyed their stay in our classes and got up to lots of mischief overnight.

English

In our English lessons, the children chose a character from the story ‘Kitchen Disco’. They wrote some fantastic descriptive sentences about the characters. The children tried hard to include lots of adjectives in their writing.

In handwriting, we have been practising forming the letters x and z.

Phonics

Our new phonemes this week are oy/ir/ue/aw. Click here to check the pronunciation.

Maths

We have focused on finding one more and counting backwards this week. The children were very good at counting backwards!

Science

We have been looking at trees. We went on a walk around the school grounds and identified many different types of trees, including mountain ash, silver birch, alder, wild cherry, apple, willow, hazel, and monkey puzzle. We examined the main parts of the tree and labelled them. We then labelled our own diagram of a tree.

Art

We looked at the work of the artist, Paul Cezanne.

The children used their knowledge of colour mixing to create some fantastic pieces of artwork.

Class Assembly

This week, we discussed parkruns in our class assembly. Mrs Booth and Toby are parkrun regulars and told us lots. We decided to all participate in the Farfield parkrun. This was great fun! The nearest junior parkrun is at Bramley Park, every Sunday morning.

Homework

Spelling books have been sent home today. This homework is due in on Tuesday 14th October.

Please continue to read at least 4 times a week for 10 minutes with your child and write a note in their reading record that you have done so.

The login details for Fast Phonics, Mathletics, Oxford Owl and Purple Mash are in your child’s reading record. There are some assignments on Mathletics for your child to complete this half term.

Polite Reminders

  • Please can all jumpers, cardigans and hoodies be named clearly. We are finding/losing a lot of them and it is difficult to see who they belong to!
  • Please, can grapes be cut in half lengthways for snack time
  • Remember to bring back your library book every Friday

Have a lovely weekend,

The Year 1 Team
