Year 1 – 11.07.25
Phonics
In our phonics lessons this week we have practised reading and spelling the days of the week.
English
We have continued with our work on ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch’. This week the children designed a basket to keep Mr Gringling’s lunch safe. They had some fantastic ideas including mustard blasters and secret compartments. The children then wrote some fantastic descriptions of their basket.
Some of the children were very curious to see why the seagulls disliked the mustard sandwiches so much. They decided to taste some extra strong mustard just like the one used in the book!

Maths
We have started our unit on time. This week we have looked at before and after, calendars and units of measurement including seconds, minutes and hours.
History
We have continued with our work on Grace Darling. This week the children discussed why Grace did what she did and why that made her so special.

Lion Learners
The children had a wonderful time at our animal workshop on Thursday morning. They were able to hold a snake, tarantula, tortoise, hissing cockroach, bearded dragon, a giant African land snail and a duprasi.

Sports day
We had a brilliant sports day and were very proud of all the children.

Transition
We had fun meeting our new Year 2 teachers.
1T will be going into Mrs Lace’s class.
1B will be going into Mrs Midwood’s and Mrs Wilson’s class.

Transition booklets will be sent home next week.
Have a lovely weekend,
