Year 1 – 04.07.25
Phonics
In phonics this week we have revised the phonemes/ graphemes oi/oy, air/ear/are, au/aw/or and silent letters. We have also continued to practise the Year 1 common exception words.
Maths
In maths we have looked at money. We have been recognising and naming coins and notes. We have also been adding coins together to find the total.

English / Design Technology
In English we have enjoyed the story ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch’. Mr Grinling then wrote us a letter asking us to design and make him a sandwich.

After we had made and tasted the sandwich, we wrote instructions to Mr Grinling to tell him how to make it.
We also ordered instructions and then followed them to make our very own seagull.

Science
We had an exciting and informative chicken talk with Mr Harris. We learnt about the features of a chicken and their habitat.

History
In history we learnt about Grace Darling. We learnt about who she was and why she was famous. We then created a timeline to show when she was born and when the rescue took place.
Computing
In computing we had our final lesson on pictograms. We rolled a dice 20 times and recorded each number we rolled. We then used this data to create a pictogram.

Butterflies
Our class caterpillars transformed into butterflies this week. We had good fun watching them be released.

Please remember it is sports day next Wednesday. A letter will have gone home with your child today about which colour to wear on the day.
Have a lovely weekend,
The Year 1 Team
