Superb singers

The highlight of the week in Year 5 was when eight of our children took part in a music festival at Leeds Arena. They have been working hard, learning the songs and practising for weeks and the improvements they have made have been massive. After the performance, the singers in 5B gave a talk about their experience and sang a few of the songs, without any backing music. They were amazing! The whole night can be summed up by Mr Harris’ morning email that he sends to staff.

I had the pleasure of attending the Leeds Youth Music Celebration Concert last night at Leeds Arena supporting 8 of our Y5s who were part of the Primary Schools’ Choir. It was an amazing evening showcasing brilliant Leeds youth musicians in a wide range of genres. Lots of goosebumps moments. Many thanks to (Ms Howells) for her work supporting the children. They were buzzing!

5KH spent their Science lesson this week investigating the best boat bow, with photos of their work below.

Maths

In Maths, we have started the Converting Units section.

Perhaps the trickiest but most useful concept is converting metric and imperial units, which we will be covering next week. If you would like to help your child understand the conversions, (and although not covered, explain why babies are weighed in lb and oz but apples are weighed in kg; hot temperatures are exclaimed in degrees F but cold temperatures look better in degrees C; milk and beer come in pints but soft drinks come in litres; driving distances are in miles but running races are in kilometers) then the video below will help them.

Next week are the trips to Malham. Just a reminder that if you wish your child to have an ice cream at the end of the walk, there is an option on Parent Pay that you need to complete.

Have a great weekend.
