Farsley Farfield Primary School

Sporting Success

Our last full week of the term has been busy with Maths and English, as always, but there have been a few football matches and an interesting Science lesson, along with a musical interlude.

Maths

This and next week we are looking at perimeter and area. Below is a video to help with finding the perimeter of polygons.

Football

It has been a great week for football in Year 5. On Tuesday, a girls’ Year 5/6 team, including Ella and Sukhmani, took on St Peter’s . After an early set back of conceding a goal, the girls stormed into a 3-1 lead only to be pulled back to 3-3 with around 10 minutes left. In a tense finish, Farsley finally found the winner to joyous scenes. Goals were from Neave, Autumn, Maud and Jeea however the year 5 girls in defence were crucial in holding on to the win in the last frenetic minutes. All this was set against a March that cannot decide if it is spring or winter. The weather looked great until kick off, then the freezing rain came down and lasted until the final whistle. It could not have been worse!

Oh yes it could be. The weather definately tried to throw everything at the players on Wednesday. The girls were at home to Horsforth Newlaithes and the Boys were at SS Peter’s and Paul’s in Yeadon, and both games were caught in a snow storm only to be follow by bright sunshine! The girls fought brilliantly again but were finally outplayed against more experienced opposition and lost a very close game 3-4. Neave scored all three goals.

At Yeadon SS Peter and Paul, the boys showed tremedous character by coming from behind to get the victory. The scoring went Farsley 0-1 SS P&P , 0-2, 1-2, 1-3, 2-3, 2-4, 3-4, 3-5, 4-5 and then Farsley equalised to make it 5-5. With 5 minutes left, Farsley went in front for the first time with a goal from Harrison to make it 6-5. Dramatic defending then kept the score at that until the final whistle. Harrison scored 4, while Theo and Jude got 1 each. Every one of the boys: Eesher, Avraj, Harrison, Toby, Harry, Kasim, Jude and Theo, were a credit to themselves and the school.

(To win a creme egg, there is a spot the ball competition for the picture below. It is not the ball in the hand of the player at the end of the line that is the focus. Where is the other Farsley ball in the photo? Email nic.beevers@farsleyfarfield.org.uk to submit your answer. First three correct answers drawn from a hat get a choccy treat.)

Music

5B recorded their final version of Erie Canal today. The video can be seen below. The children have worked very hard to play the glockenspiels and the performance was a credit to them.

Science

5K continued their science investigations into mixtures by making an irreversible change to a mixture of sugar, baking powder and butter! Down in the kitchen, the class watched and help make honeycomb. This was then covered in chocolate (strictly in the name of science!). Photos can be seen here.

Next week is only four days due to Good Friday but is parents evening week. We are looking forward to seeing you all on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Have a great weekend
