Science forces
Science
Science this week has seen both classes start the new topic of Forces.
Testing gravity. Was Aristotle or Galeleo right? Aristotle thought heavy things would fall faster. Galleleo thought the weight didn’t matter. Objects would fall at the same speed, unless affected by air resistance. In Science we tested this by dropping the same piece of paper, folded smaller and smaller. It fell faster when it had less air resistance although it was still the same weight.

On Thursday, 5B investigated what makes a good parachute. Optimistically, some of the class wondered if we were going to make parachutes for them. However, the lack of enough bin bags and sellotape (plus the odd health and safety issue) meant that we tested them using small plastic figures.

The outcome agreed by the whole class was that a bigger surface area of parachute material slowed the rate descent of the falling man.

In 5KH we learnt how to do debating. Here are some photos and short videos of 5KH debating some important issues.

Next week there will be a letter sent home giving details of the final trip of the year to Malham. 5KH will go on Thursday 10th July, with 5B going the day after (Friday 11th July).
Have a lovely weekend. Hopefully the weather will be great for Farsley Festival.
