Reception News – 6.3.26

We have had a super busy and fun week in Reception.

Phonics

In phonics this week we have been revising all the sounds we have learned so far. Our new hard to read and spell words are: were, out and like. Can your child think of a sentence using one or all of those words?

Maybe they could try and read these sentences:

I like sweets?

Were you at the park?

Maths

This week the children have been comparing amounts of objects. They have been using the language of ‘more than’, ‘fewer than’ and ‘an equal number’ to describe how many objects there are in each set. ‘Fewer than’ is used rather than ‘less than’, as the focus is on countable things.

Secret Readers

Thank you to all our ‘Secret Readers’. The children are enjoying listening to lots of different stories!

Bedtime Story Evening

Thank you to everyone who came to the bedtime story evening, we had such a good time. We hope you enjoyed all the stories.

Chinese New Year

We have learned about the celebration Chinese New Year and that it is the year of the horse. We worked out that the children born in 2020 you were born in the year of the rat and if you were born in 2021 it was the year of the ox. We acted out the story which helped us to understand why each year is named after an animal.

We then had fun being a Chinese Lion and dancing around the hall. We also made our own Chinese stir fry, the noodles were a great hit! We have been wishing everyone a Happy New Year – Kung Hei Fat Choi.

World Book Day

On Thursday we celebrated World Book Day and what a super day we had. The children came to school in some amazing costumes – thank you! We had a great day doing lots of book activities.

Reading Buddies

On World Book Day, RKT also met up with their reading buddies and RPT enjoyed reading in the sunshine with their buddies.

Spring Event

We are excited to announce that we are holding our Spring Event on Wednesday 25th March 9-10am. Parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles are welcome to come to school and follow our Spring trail around school with your child.

Don’t worry if you can’t attend the event as all the children will have the opportunity to follow the Spring trail. Wellington boots will be needed to fully explore the grounds as it is likely to be muddy.

Everything else…

Have a super weekend, hopefully the sun will keep shining.
