Phonics
During our phonics sessions, we revisited the concept of alliteration. We explored various items and thought of words that began with the same letter. The children also played the game ‘Odd One Out,’ where they were shown three items and had to determine which item started with a different letter.
Word Aware
This week, we focused on the words ‘hard’ and ‘half.’
Maths
The children examined various objects found around the classroom. We observed each object closely and discussed what we could see. They were provided with descriptive words to help them talk about the objects, such as sharp, pointy, curvy, round, and flat.
Bricks
This week, the children examined bricks. We watched a video showing how bricks are made, then attempted to build a house for a pig. The children also looked at different types of houses and buildings from around the world. As we couldn’t use full-sized clay bricks, we opted for a tiny version instead. We also used the foam bricks outdoors.

Everything else
We have seen some extinct animals come to life this week! It was fun learning about what dinosaurs used to eat. We also looked at seals and sea lions and discussed their similarities and differences. The children have continued to practise writing their names and are really impressing us with their letter formation. There was some ice outside, which the children found interesting. We had great fun finding it, looking through it, and smashing it! We spent some time in the hall using the apparatus, working on our tummy muscles. The children also enjoyed painting, making kites, playing in a jelly bath, and making paper flowers.

Have a lovely weekend,
The Nursery Team
