Phonics
This week our new sounds are: ure as in sure, cure, er as in mixer and ow (making the o sound) as in snow, mow. Our new hard to read and spell words are ball and tall.
Today your child will bring home the final flashcards, a box will come home for you to keep them all in. There are handy activity suggestions inside too. We love seeing how you are using the cards at home.

Maths
This week the children have been consolidating their understanding of the composition of 5. Composing and decomposing numbers involves the children investigating part–part–whole relations, e.g. seeing that 5 can be made of 3 and 2 or 4 and 1. Through lots of practical activities, they are developing their understanding of a ‘whole’ being made up of smaller parts.

Understanding of the World – RE
We have continued our topic on special places and learned that Sikhs go to the Gurdwara to worship. We found out that the Golden Temple is the most special place in Sikhism and that Sikhs, the same as Muslims, take their shoes off and cover their heads before they enter their place of worship.
Reception Bedtime Story Evening
As part of our World Book Day celebrations, we are having a special Reception Bedtime Story evening in our classrooms on Wednesday 5th March. It will start at 6pm and finish at 6.45pm. More details will be sent home soon.
Everything else…

Have a lovely weekend!
