English

We have learnt the poem ‘Leaves are Falling’. Both classes did a great job of performing the poem.

Phonics

This week, we have learnt the phonemes au/ey/a-e/e-e. Please keep practising all the phonemes they have learnt so far.

This video tells you how to pronounce the Phase 3 phonemes:

This is the video for the Phase 5 phonemes:

Maths

We have finished our unit on Place Value and have moved on to Addition and Subtraction. This week, we have been learning about parts and wholes in a group.

Geography

We have been looking at the seasons. We learnt that there are four seasons in the year and we are currently in autumn. The children really enjoyed going on a scavenger hunt to find signs of autumn. We definitely found LOTS of leaves!

We discussed what the weather is like in autumn and used our very own weather station and the internet to record the weather conditions this week.

Computing

We have been looking at privacy and security. We learnt that passwords are used to protect information, accounts and devices. We completed a quiz as a whole class to assess our knowledge.

Reading Buddies

We enjoyed sharing books with our Year 5 Reading Buddies.

Temple Newsam

To support our history topic next half term, we are going to Temple Newsam to take part in a Great Fire of London workshop. A letter containing more details has been sent home. Thank you to everyone who has offered to help. We are doing a pre-visit next week and then we will confirm how many helpers we need.

Boxes!

Could you please save boxes for a DT project that we will be doing next half-term? Shoe boxes and cereal boxes would be great. (Please don’t send in any boxes that have contained nuts.)

Homework

There is no set homework for the holidays. Please keep hearing your child read regularly and write comments in their reading records.

Have a lovely half-term holiday.
