Moments later.. we were in…
Maths
This week, we have come to the end of our first maths unit on Place Value. Throughout the week, children continued their work on comparing numbers to 1000 and used their understanding to order them in both ascending and descending order. Children then ended the week by counting in 50s and enjoyed completing tasks on Mathletics to support their learning. Next week, we will be starting a new unit on addition and subtraction. Children should be practising their times tables to support their maths recall on apps such as TT Rockstar.
English
This week, we enjoyed reading the ending of the Stone Age Boy and created exciting plans on where we think he could end up if we chose an alternative ending. This included another period within the Stone Age, Ancient Egypt and the future! Children wrote down key points that they will use next week to start writing their ending. Towards the end of the week, we learned more about fronted adverbials, particularly how and why they are used, and children enjoyed working in pairs to create different fronted adverbials through a game. They were given a range of fronted adverbials and used them to write their own sentences independently. We hope to see examples of these in their ending next week!
Local walk
Our unit is all about rocks and fossils, and Year 3 enjoyed going for a walk to St. John’s Church to look at rock erosion. On the way, they identified different types of rocks, and we discussed the meaning of erosion and weathering. They then attempted to complete a task on Google Classroom and record their observations about the different stones.

History
We have enjoyed learning about the Bronze Age this week, and the children made good comparisons between the different ages of the Stone Age. Working in small groups and pairs, they shared their opinion on which part of this age would have been the most challenging and why. After learning about the Bronze Age, they wrote down key points and used this to start drawing on the overall enquiry question of how things changed from the Stone Age. Year 3 also got to see some flint and were excited to share their thoughts on what the flint could’ve been used for.

RE
Our unit focuses on Judaism this term. This week Year 3 learned more about the story of Exodus and the Israelites journey to freedom. 3B worked in pairs ordering reasons as to why Hebrews fled in order of importance and acted out different situations drawing on several emotions. 3BK enjoyed listening to the story of Moses and Exodus story.

Music
Year 3 have enjoyed singing their unit song ‘Let your spirit fly’ and practising using their glockenspiels. Here is a little snippet of 3B with their glockenspiels. We still have a few weeks until their end-of-term performance!
Extreme reading
3B – 89%
3BK – 72%
This week, 3B were given the reading trophy! ( Year 6 were particularly kind and gave this to 3B since they’ve been consistent with their score) 3B were second this week.

Please continue to remind children to have their reading records ready to be signed each day when reading with an adult. Thank you for all your support with this.

Dates to remember
Thursday 9th October – Stone Age Day! This day will be all about our history topic, and children will learn more about this time period through a range of fun activities. Children should still bring coats and indoor and outdoor shoes.
There are still some children who have not brought back their Chromebook agreements. Please send this back in. Lost forms have been resent to those who requested a replacement.
Children must have a pair of indoor shoes to change into indoors, especially with the weather change. Please ensure your child has a pair in school.
Have a lovely weekend. We hope you stay safe during the storm.
