Phonics

We have been busy revising the phonemes we learnt in Reception. The children are trying hard to read and write them. Next week, they will start to learn the phase 5 phonemes.

English

The children have all written about themselves this week. They tried hard to use capital letters, finger spaces and full stops in their writing.

We have started our handwriting lessons and practised the straight ladder letters i, l and t.

Maths

This week, we have focused on representing and counting objects. The children have all been given a Mathletics password, so they might want to try it out over the weekend.

History

We enjoyed the story ‘Once There Were Giants’. We spoke about how we are born as babies and then grow into toddlers, children, teenagers and adults. We learned what a timeline is and placed pictures of familiar adults on one.

Music

We have started our unit on ‘My Musical Heartbeat’. This week, we listened to different songs and discussed what we liked and disliked about the music. We worked hard to find the pulse of the music and chose a song to learn. We will post our final performances later this half term!

Playtime Fun!

The children are enjoying using some new playtime equipment. Does anyone have any spare tyres or pots and pans that we can use?

Homework

Your child has brought home a red spelling book today. There are some spellings for your child to practise at home. This homework is due on Tuesday 30th September. There will not be a spelling test.

Please hear your child read and write a comment in their reading record.

Passwords

Your child now has access to Mathletics, Purple Mash, Fast Phonics and Oxford Owl. The usernames and passwords for these websites are stuck in your child’s reading record.

Changing Books

We will change their reading and library books every Friday. Please make sure that they bring these books back each week to swap.
