Be Healthy

We have all enjoyed talking about our favourite fruits and vegetables this week. Some lucky children even got to try some Farfield grown figs in assembly on Monday. In PSHE we have learnt why eating five portions or fruit and vegetables a day is part of a healthy diet.

In science we looked at the Eatwell Guide and have been working together to sort foods into groups.

Library

Both classes have visited the school library and borrowed books this week. 2MW will visit every Tuesday and 2LA every Wednesday. These books are for you to enjoy as a family and to read together at home. please look after these and return in good condition. Please return library books on those days.

PE

Both classes have one of their PE lessons with Miss Levett. Look at the pictures from the jumping relay 2MW enjoyed on Wednesday. They were almost too quick to photograph!

2La also enjoyed a multi-skills session with coach Mrs Lilley. This week we focused on balancing.

Instructions

In English this week we have been reading instructions and identifying their features including time adverbials like ‘next’ and ‘then’ and bossy or imperative verbs that come at the start of commands. The children have enjoyed spotting instructions being used outside of our English lessons and have found examples in recipe books, games and even in what we are saying to each other! Keep your eyes and ears peeled for instructions being used over the weekend!

Word of the Week

Each week in year two, we have a Word of the Week. It often links to other areas of learning in class. This week’s word is bossy. Children are asked to use the word in a sentence, think of other words that mean the same (synonyms) and define the word.

Reading Books

Thank you for continuing to support reading at home. Children will be given the chance to change their reading books everyday. Please remind them in the morning if they are ready to do this. Make sure you sign their records so we know when they have read at home and so we can give out the highly valued Dojo points!

Spelling

This week we have been looking at homophones with the ee/ea spelling. On Monday we gave out a spelling homework sheet. Thank you to everyone who has already completed this and handed it in to teachers. It would be lovely to see everyone have a go at this and return in on Monday.

Homework

We have sent home the purple homework books this week. Please can children complete this and hand it in by the date given:

Maths

In maths, we have been writing numbers in words as well as partitioning numbers into tens and ones. Here we are making numbers using a place value chart.

Polite reminders

  • please can all jumpers and hoodies be named clearly. We are finding/losing a lot of jumpers and it is difficult to see who they belong to!
  • please can grapes be cut in half lengthways for snack time
  • please remind your child to change their reading book.
