Farsley Farfield Primary School

18.07.25 – Year 1

The final week of Year 1! What a privilege it has been to teach your wonderful children this year. We know they will continue to thrive in Year 2! Thank you for all of your kind cards and gifts.

Phonics

In phonics this week we have tested the children on the amount of Year 1 common exception words they can read and spell. Most of the children are confident reading most of the words, spelling the words can be a little bit trickier! Please keep practising these over the summer holidays.

English

In English we have been drawing pictures and writing sentences about what we have enjoyed most in Year 1.

We have also practised forming the capital letters U, V, W, X, Y and Z.

Maths

In maths we have finished our final unit on time. The children have been practising telling the time on an analogue clock to the hour and half past the hour.

The children have really enjoyed watching this video.

Art

We have created some fantastic lighthouse pictures. The children used pencils, pastels and tissue paper to draw and colour their very own lighthouse.

History

In history we have finished our topic on Grace Darling.

The children really enjoyed watching this dramatisation.

Music

We have finished our final music unit. Here are our final performances for you to enjoy!

PE

1B have thoroughly enjoyed their gymnastics sessions this half term. Here are some pictures of them practising their balances and upper body strength.

Mathletics Celebration Assembly

On Tuesday, Mathletics came into school and we enjoyed a Mathletics Celebration Assembly. All of Year 1 have worked so hard on Mathletics this year. 1B managed to come the 2nd highest point scoring class across the entire school and three of the 1B boys had a special mention, receiving medals and key chains as prizes. Well done!

We hope you all have a wonderful summer,

The Year 1 Team
