6S Residential Day 2

A day of action! Weather a bit chilly first thing but lovely later. The children are now enjoying a sing-along camp fire and we may have an earlier night tonight.

Many thanks for all the comments: we enjoyed reading them out. I made the children laugh/cringe over them depending on whether XXs were left (but it might not be in the way that you think!).

We won’t be blogging tomorrow: all the images and videos below give you a good idea of what has been going on and two of the three groups will be underground where it is very tricky to film! We have done our best to get photos of everyone but it’s not always possible, especially if you are stuck at the back of a caving or via ferrata group. Also, some activities are very difficult to photograph. I hope you enjoy what we have managed to capture. They have been a terrific group.

Caving (only group 3 so far: Eden, Gurkeiret, Ruqayyah, Elsie, Evie G, Kieron, Sean, Isharveer, Ishaq, Logan)

Caving was a five minute drive away from How Stean. It was a really good progression from Year 5 caving: the children were underground for much longer in a big cave which had lots of different passages off the main chamber.  It is obviously very tricky to take pictures or film down there, especially as there was some tight crawling to do and some tricky climbing. This video gives you a flavour of what it was like:

Via Ferrata Group 1  (Ashleigh, Davneet, Elanor, Evie M, Georgia, Olivia, Ryan, Harveer, Karndip)

Via Ferrata is climbing and traversing following a steel wire, with the safety feature of two carabina clips. The initial walk across the gorge was tricky for some.  As you can see though, the children generally did very well on a challenging course. Mrs Wallace admitted that it was much harder than she imagined and that her hands were tired at the end.

Via Ferrata Group 2  (Ben, Colm, Dylan, Eva, Finn, Harneet, Isla, Priya, Tom)

Via Ferrata Group 3  (Eden, Gurkeiret, Ruqayyah, Elsie, Evie G, Kieron, Sean, Isharveer, Ishaq, Logan)

This group were fantastic. Everyone did the main section and five children (all the girls and Logan) went on to do three even more challenging sections at the end.

Canoeing

Groups 1 and 2 went up to a reservoir to experience some open water canoeing. It was pretty challenging but beautiful!
