English

We have continued our work on instructions this week, learning how we can use conjunctions such as ‘and’, ‘because’, ‘when’ and ‘so’ to extend our sentences. The children gave verbal instructions to each other on teeth brushing and have now completed a set of written instructions on the same topic.

Spelling

This week we have continued to look at alternative ways of spelling the ee sound. We have looked at words ending in y and ey such as funny, tricky and turkey. We also looked at the split digraph e-e in words such as theme, complete and athlete. Thank you to those children who have already completed their spelling homework. Please hand these in by Monday for a spelling dojo!

Phonics

Our daily phonics lessons are going really well following our new ELS scheme. Every day we are practising our reading and writing skills by blending and segmenting the sounds in words. We are then reading decodable books in pairs to practise our skills and build our fluency.

Maths

In maths we have been partitioning 2 digit numbers in different ways. We used the base ten on part whole models to help us.

We have also been looking at number lines. How would you answer the questions below?

Geography

In geography we will be answering the question ‘Where is Farsley?’ as we learn about our local area. This week we learnt the words ‘rural’ and ‘urban’. We looked at photographs and sorted them into urban and rural groups. After talking about Farsley and looking at some more pictures, we decided that Farsley is an urban area.

D.T

This half term we will be designing and making moving pictures. We investigated a variety of books with moving parts before creating our own moving pictures with sliding mechanisms.

Fun at Playtimes!

We have got some new equipment to play with in the conservation area. We are enjoying playing on the swings, mud kitchen and with the drainpipes. If anyone has any metal pots, pans or utensils that you no longer use, please pass them on! It is already starting to get guite muddy up there. Please send in wellies so your child can continue to explore this area.
