English

A letter arrived in this week’s post addressed to Year 2 all the way from Leeds University. Professor Bigbrain had found an unusual creature with small wings and a spiky tail and wondered what it could be. Of course, we knew it was a bog baby! We created a plan of things the professor should and should not do when looking after such a peculiar animal. We then wrote letters back to him explaining what the creature was and how he should look after it.

Spelling

We have been looking at homophone pairs this week.

Maths

We have finished our work on fractions this week with a focus on recognising and finding three quarters of a shape/amount. We then looked at counting in fractions to a whole. Please have a go at the activities set on Mathletics to consolidate our learning.

We have started learning to tell the time on an analogue clock. The children have learned o’clock and half past. Next week we will focus on learning quarter past and quarter to and then move onto telling time in 5 minute intervals.

Geography

In this week’s geography lesson we looked at using positional language to give directions. We explored a compass and came up with some rhymes to remember the four points: North, East, South, West. We then used this language to direct each other around a course of different coloured cones.

Science

We had great fun exploring our own woodland habitats in our school grounds. We identified the different trees and looked for minibeasts.

PSHE

This week we talked about male and female animals. We watched a video about a boy searching for his cat Mogsy. Where was he? Mogsy was found having kittens. The boy realised that his cat wasn’t a boy after all! The children completed a drawing and labelling activity showing Mogsy and her kittens.

DT
