Reception News – 2.4.26

Well it has been a super busy term and we are so proud of what the children are achieving. The last week of term has been a busy one!

Phonics

This week we have been revising all the sounds learnt so far as well as all the hard to read and spell words. The children have been showing us how well they know the phonemes, how they can segment and blend, and how well they can read the hard to read and spell words.

Please do keep reading and playing words games at home using the flashcards. Two weeks is a long time off school so a few minutes reading a few times a week will really help support your child.

Maths

This week the children have practically sorted buttons and pens in different ways. They noticed differences such as colour and size. They have also used their previous experience of investigating doubles to begin to practically explore odd and even numbers. The children have enjoyed watching Numberblocks and they have made their own Numberblocks with ‘even’ or ‘odd’ tops!

Understanding the World – Easter

This week we have found out about why Christians celebrate Easter. (It isn’t just about the Easter bunny!) We looked at the cross on hot cross buns and how it reminds us about what happened to Jesus. We even got to eat hot cross buns too!

Spring Event

Thank you to everyone who came to our Spring event. We hope you had a good time exploring our amazing grounds looking for signs of Spring. We were very lucky to see the deer that comes to visit our school grounds!

Egg decorating competition

We had some fantastic entries to our egg decorating competition. Well done to our winner, runner ups, and everyone who took part.

Secret Readers

Thank you very much to the secret readers who came to visit us this week!

Everything else…

We wish you a wonderful 2 weeks off and we look forward to seeing you all on Monday 20th April
