Year 2 News 12/12/25
English
The children have worked hard writing their reports on polar animals this week. They wrote a title and introduction followed by three paragraphs under subheadings! Well done Year 2!
Spellings
This week we have been looking at words with alternative spellings for the n sound: kn and gn. We found lots of homophones too.
Maths
This week we have been drawing 2D shapes, finding lines of symmetry and completing symmetrical pictures. We have been trying very hard to draw straight lines with our rulers!
Art
We have enjoyed doing some drawings for our Christmas cards this week. We hope you like yours!

Geography
In geography, we talked about global warming. The world is getting warmer due to pollution and the ice in the Arctic is melting. This is bad news for polar bears because their home is getting smaller and there are fewer places for them to hunt for food. Polar bears are an endangered species. What can we do to help save the polar bears?

History
We remembered the story about the race to the south pole from last week. Children remembered the key events. But how do we know that it was true? We looked at different sources of evidence such as photographs, diaries and letters. The children then wrote their own inscription for a statue of Captain Scott. Did you think he was a brave hero or did you think he was unprepared for his expedition?
PSHE
We read the story sharing a shell. The children talked about how friendships can break and how we can make friends again. Here we are making friendship bracelets for each other.
