Happy Half-Term!

We have had a fantastic half-term and have loved getting to know the children! We are so impressed with how hard they have all worked and we’re already looking forward to next half-term!

Maths
In Maths this week, the children have been learning how to subtract 1s and 10s where they have to cross tens and hundreds. This was quite a tricky concept to grasp, but the children used their knowledge of number bonds to help them and all showed excellent resilience! Have a look at the video to recap how to subtract 10 across 100.

Times Tables
We have shown the children how to find their ‘heatmaps’ on Times Tables Rockstars this week. This shows how many times tables they know. The greener the heatmap, the more fluent they are with their tables! It would be really helpful for children to use TT Rockstars regularly throughout the week to help them learn and consolidate their times tables knowledge. Playing games on ‘Garage’ will improve their heatmaps, whereas ‘Jamming’ will help them learn times tables without time limits.

History
This week in History, the children learnt all about the Stonehenge. They completed some research independently and find out lots of interesting information to create an informative fact file. They found out things such as where it is (Wiltshire), what it might have been used for (such as a place of worship or for ceremonies), what it was made from (some of the stones were brought from as far away as Scotland!).

RE
In RE this week, we learnt all about the Jewish celebration of Pesach and about the Sedar plate. Pesach celebrates the story of the Exodus (the freeing of the Jewish people from slavery in Egypt) and is celebrated over 8 days. Part of the celebration is the Sedar meal. This involves 6 symbolic foods which each represent a part of the story of the Exodus. These foods include matzah (unleavened bread), a roasted lamb bone, hard-boiled egg, bitter herbs such as horseradish, charoset (a mixture of walnuts, apple and cinnamon) and herbs dipped in salt water. We created our own Sedar plates in Year 3 this week and the children enjoyed trying the different foods!

Science
We ended our unit this week learning about soil formation. Children worked in pairs to create their own model of the different layers in soil using different materials. They then labelled the different parts and enjoyed sharing their models with the rest of the class!

Reading
Year 3 were super excited to visit Nursery this week and meet their reading buddies! Children sat together in small groups and pairs and shared a story. They then went out for a short play. We can’t wait for another session next term.

Special mention and Class Dojo
Special mentions – Lauren, Ellie, Emily, Kushi, Hashim and Aariz
Class Dojo – Rijja and Evie

Extreme Reading
3B – 93%
3BK – 70%

School Council
Each class will be voting for their School Council rep in the week after half term. If children would like to put themselves forward to be a School Council rep, they need to prepare a short presentation to explain to the rest of their class why they would make a good School Council rep. This could be done on Google Slides, Google Docs, as a poster or just a verbal speech!

We hope you have a lovely break and we’re already looking forward to another great half-term of learning!
