Year Two News 3.10.25
English
We read the story Mr Wolf’s Pancakes this week. It is an alternative version of the Little Red hen and children enjoyed comparing the two stories. We have planned our own alternative versions that we will write next week! Can the children remember who their characters are and what they want to make?
Spelling
This week we have been looking at words with the air sound: air, are, ear, ere.
Maths
We have continued our work on place value and number this week spotting patterns and counting forwards and backwards in 2s, 5s, 10s and 3s. You might enjoy having a sing along to one of the videos below. There are some more activities set on Mathletics to have a go at. Well done to everyone who completed the activities set a few weeks ago.

Geography
We have continued our work on the local area this week. The children enjoyed looking at photographs of the local area and discussing what physical and human features they could see. Next week we will be using maps to plan a local walk and then following our route to visit Farsley Library.
PE
Following on from our learning on keeping healthy, year two continue to enjoy being active. Here are some great action shots of 2MW practicing sending and receiving the ball. We experimented with rolling, kicking and throwing the ball.

2La have been working on their agility!

Paired Reading
This term, year 2s have been reading in pairs. Using this strategy helps support the development of fluency and children are able to enjoy a book together. Please keep reading and returning home reading books. Children can swap their reading book on any day.

Parkrun
Our class assemblies this week were all about Parkrun. We talked about how taking part in activities like Parkrun can keep our bodies and minds healthy as well as bringing people together. Lots of children said they felt inspired and curious to find out more!

This week we investigated wheel mechanisms for our moving pictures.

Science/PSHE
We hope you have all managed to complete your 5 a day records!
This week we have been talking about keeping clean and personal hygiene. We talked about the different ways we can keep our bodies clean and how often we should do them. Don’t be surprised if children are asking to change their socks or have a bath tonight!
Farming
Every Friday afternoon, a group of year 2 children go to the farm for some activities with Mrs Kingsley. Here are a few photos from the last two weeks.

A wet afternoon for today’s group!
