Artefacts, explanations and electricity!
We have had another busy week in Year 4!
R.E
In R.E both classes explored some Islamic artefacts, looking closely to try and work out what the artefacts are used for and why they are important to Muslims.

English
In English, we have been learning all about explanation texts. This week we focused on using flowcharts to help break down a process and explain it orally. The children chose topics from how plants grow to how spiderman got his powers!

We have also started writing our own explanation texts, making links to our class text (The Firework Maker’s Daughter) to explain how to look after white elephants. We began by writing an introduction. The children all thought carefully about what a good introduction would look like, and tried to borrow some sentence structures from our model texts to help them with their own writing.

Science
In science we had lots of fun making simple electrical circuits. The children learnt about the different components of a circuit and explored ways of connecting the circuits to make them work.

Swimming
We were very proud of all our Year 4 children at their first swimming lesson on Wednesday! The children behaved brilliantly and all got into the water confidently so that their swimming ability could be assessed by the instructors. The children are looking forward to next week, when they will be in the water for the whole lesson.
Homework
Well done to everyone for working hard on your 2 x tables over the last week. Today the children did a quick check on the 2 x tables. Those children who answered all the questions correctly have been given the 5 x tables to work on this week. Children who did not answer all the questions correctly should continue to practise their 2s at home this week. Children have also brought home a spelling sheet to complete.
Please remember that children should read at home five times each week and have their reading record signed each time they read.
Wishing you all a lovely weekend,
Mrs Sykes, Miss Levett and Mr Nehaul
