English

The children have been writing their own versions of ‘The Tiger who Came to Tea’ this week and have done a fantastic job. We began by making a plan for our story by drawing our ideas onto a story mountain. This then helped us to write coherent stories with a clear beginning, middle and end.

Spelling

This week in spelling we have been adding suffixes to words ending y. The rule is: change the y to i except when adding ing.

Maths

We have been learning all about volume and capacity this week. The children have learned that we can use millilitres and litres to measure volume and capacity. We enjoyed the practical activities, reading the scale and finding out the capacity of a container by filling it up and pouring into a measuring jug.

DT

In DT this week we have explored different ways to make finger puppets. We tried some different styles and tried to make them stronger using card.

History

In history we looked at some objects and used our historical enquiry skills to answer questions about them. We discovered they were all objects from the 1960’s. We looked back at the timeline to work out when this was and worked out that anybody over 65 was a child in the 1960s. We then thought of some questions to ask about what life was like then.

Thank you for the super homework so far. Please hand this in next week.

We also started to find out about the toys that were popular in the 1960s. We recognised lots of the toys such as hot wheels cars and the games twister and operation. We created a toys’ timeline then sorted toys into two groups: 1960s toys and present day toys.
