Reception News – 24.4.26

Welcome back! We hope you have all had a good break from school. It was lovely to see all the children this week. They were super excited to share all the fun things they have been doing.

Phonics

In this half term we are looking at changing words by adding a suffix. This week we have been adding ‘ed‘ to the end of words such as mend- mended, land – landed. The children have done so well blending words ending in ed and writing sentences with words ending in ed.

Maths

This week the children have developed confidence in counting strategies, including counting on from different starting numbers. The children have also considered strategies for counting larger numbers of objects, including those that cannot be moved. We have used counting wands and a puppet to develop our counting skills. The children have also been given opportunities to hear and practise key differences in the number names e.g. between ‘teen’ and ‘-ty’ numbers.

Harlow Carr

We are looking forward to our visit to RHS Harlow Carr in Harrogate. RKT will be going on Tuesday 5th May and RPT will be going on Friday 8th May. The cost of this visit is £3 per child and this will be added to your ParentPay account. We will also need some parent volunteers to accompany us each day. Please fill in and return the letter attached by Monday 27th April . A paper copy of this letter has also been given out this week.

PE

In PE we started our unit on cooperation. The children did very well making groups of 1, 2, 3, and 4 during our warm up game. Then they worked in pairs, rolling a ball to each other. At first, they stopped it with their hands, and then their used their feet to stop the ball. We were very impressed at how confidently the children were at stopping the ball.

Everything else..

Have a lovely weekend and we will see you all on Monday.
