PE and Sport

We love sport at Farfield! We have a sporty staff, enthusiastic children and brilliant voluntary partners. We enjoy active, imaginative PE lessons and have many extra-curricular opportunities. We enter lots of competitions such as football, athletics, cross country and triathlon. Our huge school grounds are superb for sports and healthy physical activity. Farsley Farfield Primary School won the Active Schools Leeds ‘Delivering High Quality Physical Education – Innovative Curriculum PE Award in 2016. Click here to see all the details. We also won the TES national Healthy School of the Year 2017 award for our work around food and physical activity! In 2022 the school received external validation for full Healthy Schools Status. The Healthy Schools Inspectors said “There is an excellent range of activities provided within the curriculum, during break and lunchtimes times and at after school clubs. Pupils are very enthusiastic about the activities offered to them..”

School Games Mark – Platinum Level

After successfully achieving the Gold mark for four consecutive years, we achieved the Platinum award in 2023. School Games Mark is a government led awards scheme which rewards schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community. The Platinum award was introduced to celebrate schools who had shown consistently high-levels of enthusiasm and commitment to school sport, which we have now been recognised for.

Our PE policy (below) sets out our curriculum intent, implementation and impact and our Curriculum Plan provides details of our PE curriculum in each year group.

Our ‘Sports Premium’ grant is spent on additional staffing for PE lessons, subscriptions to local and city-wide PE service level agreements (for training and competitions) and specialist coaching and facilities such as: Nile Wilson Gymnastics, Northern Arts Dance Factory, The Depot (bouldering) and Rawdon Tennis Club. The balance of funds is being spent on equipment and a small contribution to the school minibuses (on which our use of external facilities and engagement with competitions rely).
