Year 6 Blog – 6.11.26. Where is the dirtiest place in our school?

Science

Year 6 were very keen to get into their (slightly smelly) classrooms when they returned from half term break: they wanted to know whose bread had developed the most mould and where the dirtiest place in the school was.

We had really interesting results in both classrooms. 6NK had strung their bread up and it had received a lot of sunshine thanks to their bright classroom. The result was that their bread had a LOT of green mould and some of the most dirty places in the school they found were the floors of the hall under the stage and piano. 6D had put their bread in Mrs Dobkin’s cupboard which hadn’t received as much sunlight and their bread had grown mould in all the colours of the rainbow! There was red, black, yellow, green and even some strange fuzzy white mould developing. Horrifyingly for staff, 6D discovered conclusively that the computer keyboard, photocopier and computer mice in certain classrooms were by far the dirtiest place in the school. They concluded that the staff of Farsley Farfield needed to wash their hands much more dilligently!

English

We began our new class text War Horse this week and the children have already demonstrated great understanding of character by writing in role. We imagine ourselves to be Albert meeting his horse Joey for the very first time and used expanded noun phrases and the language of Michael Morpurgo to lend our writing some flair.

Here is a folder with some examples of writing

World War One

We have begun our History unit this week and in our first lesson, studied the causes of the Great War. Both Mrs Dobkin and Mr Nehaul were really impressed with the childrens’ curiosity and attentiveness as we covered some complex ideas! We talked about the politics of the time and learned about the secret alliances which meant countries had to defend each other at the point of war. Thanks to some brilliant acting and drama skills in both classes, the children showed great understanding of the events leading up to the declaration of war. Well done Year 6!
