Headteacher blog 6th November 2026

We have had lots of prospective candidates for headteacher visiting this week which is exciting and bodes well for the recruitment later this month.

We got our cross country results from the area competition last half term. We did well: winning the team competitions for Y3 boys and Y5 girls, and having many more teams and wildcard individuals qualifying for the city finals at Temple Newsam next year. This weekend we have the first Saturday morning cross country competition. We have 18 entrants and others who wanted to come but have busy Saturday mornings with other clubs. We had many more enthusiastic runners practising at lunchtime: mostly in Y3 and Y4. It’s a shame that enthusiasm for running seems to wane somewhat in Year 6. Mrs Andrea Tomlinson is working hard to try to promote running: having a girls’ running club after school and attending the Saturday competitions – many thanks to her. We are also grateful to Mrs Hall and her amazing running shoe library that will ensure our competitors are well kitted-out.

This weekend we have the PTA’s inaugural ‘Festival of Fire’ on the school grounds. Hundreds of tickets have been sold and it should be a positive event at the time of Bonfire Night and Diwali. It isn’t going to be a loud event – there are no fireworks – but there will be music, an exciting fire performance and a bonfire. There will also be food and drink. It should be a lovely family event and I am looking forward to it. Many thanks to all our PTA volunteers for their efforts and support.
