Good evening,
For those of you new to Year 5, welcome, and for those of you who have had children in Year 5 before, welcome back.
Year 5 is a packed year with lots of activities and events for your child to look forward to. Greek day will be upon us soon and we have already started to plan one of the highlights of the year, which is the Year 5 Christmas performance. Details of the show, roles and how to audition for them will be sent out in a few weeks.
This week we have been getting to know everyone and introducing them to the curriculum and the expectations of the year. We started our Maths and English lessons on Thursday and today have continuted with various other subjects.
Maths
Maths, for the first few weeks, concentrates on place value. Next week, our first lesson will be numbers to 100,000.

English
Our first lesson in English was a revision of using basic punctuation. This includes capital letters, full stops, question marks and exclamation marks. These are vitally skills that must be used correctly going into Year 6.
Next week, we will start our first writing topic, which is based on ancient Greece mythology. Over the next couple of weeks, we will read about Theseus and the Minotaur and listen to the Odyssey, summarising the parts. Finally, we will write our own Greek myth.
Music
The song we are learning to sing this half term is Livin’ on a Prayer. We had an introduction today, which was greated with enthusiasm. There is an instrumental section, during which the class will be playing their glockenspiels. However, if your child plays another instument, please encourage them to have a go at learning the song. Sheet music will be given out next week.
