It has been a typically busy week. I had the pleasure of taking some Y6 children to Rawdon Tennis Club for a PE lesson and I spent an afternoon with Y3 children as part of their Stone Age Day making and using spears and bows and arrows. Firing a bow and arrow is pretty tricky, especially when you are just 7! The bows made of hazel were more powerful than the willow ones. Some children ‘got it’ and had success. Others didn’t. Some were in more danger of shooting themselves! We hunted a straw bale ‘deer’ that teetered on four stick legs. It wasn’t in much danger!
On Thursday night, we had some huge Hallowe’en discos courtesy of our fabulous PTA. Nearly half the school were there and the costumes were fantastic! (Y3 have had quite a task with costumes this week – sorry about that!) The children seemed to enjoy it and I was impressed by the amount of dancing on show – most aren’t shy! Shivam and Kelseyann made me laugh the most.
I have also spent a great deal of time doing school tours this week, mostly for prospective nursery and Reception places next year. A surprisingly high proportion of tours have been from families living in Rodley (and Bramley). We do always recruit a few children from those areas each year and, with the drop in the number of babies locally, there is much more chance of these families securing a place in the school than there was a few years ago.
