It has been an incredibly busy, exciting, and hands-on term in the Orchard! The children have shown fantastic enthusiasm across all our subjects, and we are so proud of how much progress they have made. Here is a look at what we have been up to:
In our English sessions, we started the term focusing on following and writing simple instructions. The children successfully sequenced pictures to make jam sandwiches—and then got to make and eat them! We also looked at the classic story of The Little Red Hen, where we sequenced the tale and baked our very own bread. Another huge favourite this term was the story Mr Wolf’s Pancakes, which brought lots of laughter to our reading sessions.
In Maths, our focus has been on mastering number bonds to five and ten. The children have done a brilliant job using physical manipulatives, especially Numicon, to help visualise these numbers and build their confidence.
Our science lessons taught us all about how to keep our bodies healthy, which included some fun practicing how to brush our teeth!
We became local detectives, exploring Farsley village and using Google Earth to spot our very own houses for our Geography lessons.
Explore time in the Orchard is always a highlight. This term, the children have been busy developing their fine motor skills through sensory play. Activities included emptying and filling containers with colourful water beads, using pincers to sort insects by colour, and using shaving foam to build creative brick towers. We have focused on teamwork and cooperation through practicing various team games in PE.
Finally, we filled our classroom with rhythm and music, as the children explored different musical instruments and practiced hard for our upcoming music show!
