It has been an unusual week that started with me having to work from home whilst Day 1 of the new headteacher recruitment took place. Governors will update the school community at some point soon as regards what the outcome of the process has been.
The week also started with bad news that we had some theft and damage over the weekend which is VERY unusual for our school. Bizarrely, we lost some huge pumpkins that, despite appeals, have not been returned. Very generously, two families have made impressive donations of pumpkins and unusual squash so next week’s Harvest Festival will still have an impressive display.
We had our first competitive school football match of the season on Tuesday, winning 3-0 against Beecroft. Charlotte and the Y6 boys played lots of really good football, passing very well, and they scored three excellent goals – two of which came from crosses. The 12 children in the squad all put in a great effort and really worked well as a team.
We have also been getting ready for a big cross country competition next Monday. Years 3-6 have been practising and choosing their teams. Lots of children have been very enthusiastic and I think we have some strong teams, particularly in Year 5. It has been sad, though, that many children can’t or won’t run for 900m or 1500m without stopping and some strong runners have said they don’t want to be in the competition. Running is healthy and cross-country is character-building. It needs determination and resilience: valuable qualities for life.
