From Fossils to Fronted Adverbials!

Maths
This week in Maths, we have continued our learning about place value. We have been practising counting in 50s and using our knowledge of the 5 times table to spot patterns. We have also spent some time developing our recall of the 2, 5 and 10 times tables. Children are encouraged to use TT Rock Stars regularly to help build their confidence and speed when recalling their times tables.

English
This week in English, we have been writing descriptions. The children enjoyed using their senses and cave pictures as a stimulus to think about what they could see, hear, feel and smell. The children then used their ideas to write a short description of a mysterious cave. They included details such as paintings on the walls, spiders hiding in the corners and just how pitch black the cave was. Children were also introduced to fronted adverbials, which we will continue to practise over the coming weeks.

Science
This week in science, we learned about fossils and how they form. We began by sharing our ideas about what fossils are and discussing what they can tell us about plants and animals that lived millions of years ago. The children then learned about how fossils form. They worked hard to remember and write down the different stages in the correct order, explaining what happens at each stage. Once they had sequenced their ideas, they added pictures to illustrate each stage and help bring the process to life.

Stone Age Day
As part of our history unit, we will be holding a Stone Age Day! This will be on Wednesday 14th October. The children will have the opportunity to take part in lots of fun and exciting activities that will help them learn more about what life was like during the Stone Age. Children are very welcome to dress up as a Stone Age person if they would like to. We can’t wait to see their Stone Age outfits and enjoy a day of hands on learning!
