Year 6 02.10.26 – Oreos R Us!

This week saw the arrival of the lesson every Year 6 child has been looking forward to: Oreo Plate Tectonics.

The children worked incredibly hard (with the promise of potential oreos to be eaten at the end of the lesson) and learned about the different types of plate boundary found around the world and whether or not they were likely to generate an earthquake. Children were surprised to learn that not every plate boundary moves in the same way! Some move away from each other, some move toward each other and some rub past each other. We learned three new geographical words: divergent, convergent and conservative and used them to describe the different types of boundary. We also looked at this brilliant map which shows the different plate boundaries found around the world

After all that learning it was oreo time. We used the oreos to represent the different types of boundary and created posters to help us remember which boundary resulted in which natural phenomenon. Then it was time to eat! We hope the children enjoyed this lesson – their happy faces definitely suggest it was a favourite this week.

Kensuke and the Jellyfish

We have completed some dramatic writing in English this week as we wrote from the point of view of Kensuke and described his horror as he watched Michael go into the water with jellyfish. Children had to imagine how Kensuke rescued him from the danger and write their own version of the narrative. We focused on using semi-colons to join two independent clauses and rhetorial questions to engage the reader.

Here are some examples of some brilliant writing.

Indoor shoes

The ground has been a little wetter than in previous weeks and we have many children coming to school without appropriate indoor footwear. Please can you make sure your child has indoor shoes at school that they can change into after being outside on the grass. Thank you for your support with this.
