Another Fantastic Week!

Science

In science this week, the children have been learning all about how circuits work. Since this is a fairly abstract concept, we decided to make it a little easier to understand by making a ‘human circuit’. For this, we assigned the role of lightbulb to the most positive and cheerful member of the class and the role of cell to the most energetic child. The rest of the children became the electrons, moving through the wire and carrying their energy from cell to bulb (and doing a fantastic job with their roleplay). It really helped to make a very tricky concept a little easier to understand!

English

In English, we have started to prepare for our upcoming extended writes (which will be all about fireworks). To this end, the children spent some time designing their own fireworks and had to think carefully about what they would look and sound like, what ingredients they were made of and what patterns they would make when they went off. The lovely thing about this activity was that the children didn’t have to create logical fireworks like the ones that exist in the real world – these ones were based on the wierd and wonderful creations in ‘The Firework Maker’s Daughter’ and could therefore be made from all manner of creative ingredients!

General Reminders

This week, the children have been given spelling homework and their own targetted times table sheet. Both of these are due in on Wednesday 30th September. We also appreciate your continued support in encouraging your child to read daily and return their reading records with a signature.

We hope you have a wonderful weekend!
