Our PTA are a fantastic support to the school. Today, we expect to receive delivery of our fantastic new-to-us fancy Transit minibus, fully funded by the PTA. Our old Transit bus had been an absolute bargain and brilliant servant to the school for well over ten years but it is nearly 20 years old and uneconomic to keep going. This new bus is a bit bigger than we are used to and more luxurious. It will be a squeeze at the gates: check those mirrors! Many, many thanks to the PTA and everyone that has contributed over the years.
It is not often that a school delivers completely new, novel learning experiences, but this week there have been a couple for some children in Year 6. One was soft archery in a PE lesson, and the other was supporting with some vaccinations and medication for pigs and goats. The pigs were relatively easy – medication hidden in apples – but the goat vaccinations were more challenging: separation, holding and syringe injections. The actual goat wrangling and injections were done by Mrs Kingsley and Mr Nehaul, but the children were involved in many stages and watched avidly.
It is Farsley Scarecrow festival this weekend and the infants have done a great job with scarecrows outside their building. With a super Farfield bee theme, the creations are displayed on a straw bale and will be part of the scarecrow trail map. Well done!
Next week we have the recruitment days for a new headteacher in the new year as I am due to retire at Christmas. Fingers crossed for a great appointment for this fantastic school. It must be a good school to work in: very many of us have been here for decades!
