It’s been another super week in Year 2. The children have really settled into their new routines and are really impressing us with their attitude to learning.
English
In English this week we have been putting together all of the skills we have been learning to write some instructions for how to brush your teeth. The children used time words and imperative (bossy) verbs in their command sentences to instruct children how they should brush their teeth. Some important facts we have learned is that they need to use a pea sized amount of flouride toothpaste and that they should brush for two minutes. Children learned that rinsing after brushing is not recommended because it will wash away the flouride!

Spelling
We have learned some alternative spellings for ee this week. Well done if you had a go at last week’s homework. Remember to bring it back by Monday for a dojo!
Maths
Maths has been trickier this week! We have been partitioning 2 digit numbers in different ways. For example 63=60 + 3 or 50 + 13 or 40 + 23!

Geography
We learned some new words in geography: urban and rural. The children then sorted pictures to say if they were features of an urban or rural area.

PSHE/Science
We talked about what is meant by 5-a-day. We talked about portion sizes and the types of fruits and veg that are included and what doesn’t count. We found out why fruits and vegetables are good for us.
In Science we planned a healthy lunchbox. Not a biscuit or crisp in sight!

Art
In art this week we have started to make a scarecrow for the Farsley Scarecrow Festival. We have been inspired by the artwork of Romero Britto who creates bright, bold images using vivid colours and patterns. We are working together to make a Farfield Bee!
