Welcome to Reception! Every week we will letting you know what we have learnt about/experienced in Reception.
We have had a lovely first full week in Reception. The children are settling in well and making new friends. We have been busy getting to know your child and finding out about everything they know. In a morning, they are coming in independently and trying hard to remember to put their fruit and water bottle away and find their self-registration name.
PE
We will start PE on Thursday 17th September. In the Autumn term, we will be doing PE inside the school hall. However, the children don’t need pumps. The children come to school in their PE kit on a Thursday.
Independent self care
We have a number of children who are needing support to put on socks and shoes. Also, some children find it difficult to wipe their own bottom. To help, we demonstrate what the children need to do and talk them through the process while they have a go independently. In occasional cases, we do help if it is necessary. Over lunchtime, we are encouraging the children to hold both their knife and fork. It is important for your child to be independent at school in their self care. Please practise these things with your child if they find any of the above difficult. Thank you.
Bags
Please make sure your child only brings their red bag to school every day. They may put one small key ring on their book bag to help them find it at home time. We don’t need any rucksacks as we simply don’t have the space. If you would like to leave a change of clothes on your child’s peg, then please do in a labelled carrier or PE bag.
Reception Baseline Assessment
Over the next two weeks, we will be completing the Reception Baseline Assessment. Please see the leaflet below for more information.
Reception Baseline Information for parents
The Colour Monster
Our book this half term is The Colour Monster by Anna Llenas. The children are enjoying listening to the story and had fun making their own colour monsters. We have talked about our feelings when we started school. We have thought about what makes us happy and created our own happy monster.
Exploring the School Grounds
This week we have enjoyed exploring the school grounds. The children found lots of fruit and vegetables growing – squash, sweetcorn, tomatoes, pumpkins and apples! We also saw the chickens, goats and pigs.
Library
The children have enjoyed visiting our school library this week. Please make sure the library book is returned on Thursday. We will visit the library every Friday and a new book will be given once the previous book has been returned. Thank you.
