Year 2 News 4.09.26

Welcome back! We have had a super time in Year 2 this week.

Ready, Respectful, Kind

We have done lots of work this week on school rules and class routines and expectations. Children have quickly settled into these and have shown how ready they are for Year 2! We got to know the classroom and where things are with a treasure hunt. We have looked at our learning hive and made some bees with their colours, thinking about our own good qualities. We also worked hard on some art work, with all of our special things that make us all unique.

English

We started some sentence work in English based on our class animals. We have written question sentences to ask something, remembering a question mark at the end. We then wrote statement sentences to tell something, using full stops. Amazingly, the children needed very few reminders and did a super job.

Maths

In maths, we started our new unit on place value. We have started by reading and writing numbers to 20, in both numerals and words. We were very impressed!

Spelling

We have practised some common spellings from Year 1, including days of the week.

PSHE

We talked about how we can be a great learner by having a growth mindset. We thought about things that we can do, and the things we can’t do….yet!

Next week:

We will start our full curriculum next week. In the mornings we will have phonics, English and maths. Afternoons will start with a spelling or reading lesson, followed by our foundation subjects. PE days are Tuesday and Wednesday for 2MW and Wednesday and Thursday for 2La. Please read the newsletter for more details of what we will be doing this half term.
