Headteacher blog 4th September 2026

It has been a good start to the new school year with classes settling quickly and lots of happy faces around school. It is great to be be back!

Over the summer, we have had a new roof on much of the junior building and this work is on-going into September. We are grateful for Leeds City Council’s support with this. We should be more watertight and warm in future and, once the work is finished, we will be able to do some internal refurbishment, especially of the long corridor area. The summer also saw the launch of a new school website, including some image protection measures.

Another development over the summer was a minibus inspection that advised us to ‘retire’ our old transit minibus. This bus has been a great asset to the school for many, many years. Thankfully, our wonderful PTA has stepped in and funded a ‘new-to-us’ replacement 17-seater Ford minibus that should be with us later this month. Transit 17-seaters have grown over the past 20 years: this one will feel almost coach-like and is about 80cm longer. The PTA has had some changes in their committee over the summer and they have an exciting range of events lined up for the new school year – look out for information and their first fundraising event very, very soon. We are so grateful to have them!

As you probably know, this is my last term as headteacher as I (too) am retiring after Christmas. The recruitment for a new headteacher has been progressing over the summer and should conclude at the end of this month. After more than 20 years, I obviously have some mixed feelings approaching the end of my time here, but I am determined to have a very positive last term and support the new headteacher in any way I can as they take on our fabulous school and move forward.
