Year 1 News – 4.9.26

We have had a fantastic three days in Year 1! It has been wonderful getting to know all of the children better. They are settling into the routines of Year 1 well.

Reading

We are busy hearing each child read individually. By the end of next week, they will have a reading book and a reading record in their book bag. Please read with your child at least four times a week and write in the reading record so we know what they have read. Please keep the reading book and record in your child’s book bag during the week. We will change the children’s home reading books every Friday.

Phonics, Reading and Handwriting

We will be holding an information evening for all parents and carers on Wednesday 30th September at 5pm. We will talk about reading and phonics and introduce cursive letter formation. This session will take place in the Year 1 classrooms. We hope that you can all join us to learn how to support your child at home. More details will be sent home soon.

Art

The children have been learning about self-portraits. This week, they have all painted a picture of themselves.

Exploring our new classrooms

The children have had lots of fun exploring their new classrooms and outside area.

PE

We will start our PE lessons next week. Our PE days are Monday and Friday. Please can your child come to school in their PE kit on those days.

History

We will be starting our history lessons next week. In our lessons, we will explore how they have changed since being a baby. If possible, please send in a named photo of your child as a baby or toddler to support these lessons. Alternatively, you could email the picture to alexandra.galbraith@farsleyfarfield.org.uk or rebecca.broadhead@farsleyfarfield.org.uk and we can print it in school.

Newsletter

A newsletter has been sent home today with lots of information about Year 1. It is also attached here.

Have a lovely weekend.
