It has been a short but busy week in Year 3. The children have been settling back into their routines and have enjoyed getting stuck into lots of different activities!
Maths
We have started our unit on Place Value. Children recapped their understanding of numbers to 100 and represented them using maths apparatus and then moved to partitioning numbers up to 100 using a part whole model. We will be continuing with this next week.
English
This week, the children explored a picture stimulus and worked collaboratively to think about what they could see and what might be happening in the image. They shared their ideas with a partner, made predictions and discussed what the picture might be telling us. The children then created a mind map of their ideas, recording what they could see and the words they could use to describe the picture. They used their mind maps to help them write a short piece of text based on the image.
We kept the writing open ended, allowing the children to develop their ideas in their own way. Some children wrote short sentences using a range of interesting adjectives, while others created longer, more detailed descriptions. It was lovely to see the children working together, sharing their ideas and using their imaginations to bring the picture to life!
PE
Year 3 will have PE on Wednesday and Friday afternoons. This change is because the children will be starting their ukulele lessons on Wednesday afternoons. We are looking forward to developing their musical skills alongside their PE activities!
Indoor and outdoor shoes
We kindly ask that children bring both indoor and outdoor shoes to school each day. We would also recommend that children bring a pair of wellies to keep in school. These will be particularly useful when the children are using the field during wet weather, helping to keep them dry while playing outside on the muddy fields!
Reading records
We have sent home reading records this week. Children are expected to read 5 times per week and bring in their signed reading record in daily. Thank you for your support with this.
Homework
Homework is usually sent out on Friday afternoons and are expected back on Wednesdays. We haven’t set any homework this week as it has been a short but busy week of settling in. Homework will be sent out from next week.
