Geography
Children have enjoyed learning about Mugurameno, a village on the Zambezi river in Zambia. We began the week looking at photographs of the village and collecting questions about them. Questions included; Is it fun living there? What are they doing in the river? and What plants are growing? Later in the week we took a closer look at the river and how rivers are used by people who live near them. In Mugurameno, there are crocodile fences so that no on gets eaten while doing the washing up!
English
We have enjoyed the story The Lemur’s Tale this week. Children put themselves in the Lemur’s shoes to write from their perspective. We asked the lemur questions about events in the story.
Maths
Children have been practising using cm and m to measure lengths this week. 2MW measured the length of the playground. It proved tricky, we had a range of answers from 22m to 101m! Maybe more practise needed! We used the metre stick in the classroom to find things that were longer and shorter than 1m.
Many children could use more practise using a ruler to measure in cm and to draw straight lines. Perhaps this is something you could do at home?
Mystery Readers
We have loved having more mystery readers in year 2 this week. Thank you so much to those who have volunteered. We even had some dancing as part of our story with Eva’s mum!
Skipping Workshop
We welcomed Chris from skipping school who showed us some skipping skills. We learned how to ‘run, jump, out’ of the long rope and that we need to stand up straight and have wide arms to skip with out own rope.
Over the next few weeks we will be practising in our PE lessons. We are working towards taking part in a skipping festival in June, where our most confident skippers will take part in a competition against other schools.
Children are welcome to bring in a skipping rope from home to use at playtimes!
Happy Mother’s Day
Wishing all our mothers, grandmas and aunties a Happy Mother’s Day. This year, we took our inspiration from Brazilian artist, Romero Britto. We hope you like your card!
