Maths
This week in maths, we have been working hard to strengthen our times table knowledge. We began by revisiting the 8 times table as part of our multiplication unit, and used their times tables to calculate different values with the support of bar models. We then explored the 2, 4 and 8 times tables, identifying similarities and patterns using Venn diagrams.
We have also started our second unit on multiplication and division, focusing on multiples of 10. To support their times table recall, children have been completing TT Rockstars challenges, with a particular focus on the 4 and 5 times tables. We ended the week by at related calculations and identifying fact families.
Do they live happily ever after?
This week in writing, we had lots of fun exploring traditional tales and recalling key events from familiar stories. After watching Jack and the beanstalk the children enjoyed discussing alternative endings and thinking about how the story could be changed.
The children mind-mapped their key ideas before developing them further using a mountain map, which they will use next week to retell their own version of the tale. In our retelling, Jack isn’t very nice, and the story is told from the giants’ perspective!
To end the week, we focused on developing a character by describing key features and personality traits. Children will be using this to write a character description, which they can also use in their stories next week. It’s going to be a busy and exciting few weeks of writing, and we’re really looking forward to it!
History
This week, we explored the fascinating gods and goddesses and brought our learning to life with a fun game of trump cards! We learned more about the different roles of gods and goddesses and why they were important, then compared their powers and symbols using the cards. Children enjoyed sharing their information with others and trading cards.
Magnets
After watching ‘Pocket full of trouble’, the children used their understanding of magnets to think about the story carefully. They discussed whether a small magnet could attract larger objects, shared ideas, and made predictions. Children answered both retrieval and inference questions linking the story to science.
