Year 2 News 23.01.26

English

We finished our recipes earlier in the week, working hard to write the steps for making our magic medicines and adding a warning at the end.

We then moved on to some narrative work, creating a new character for a story. Next week we will be developing ideas for a story where a fun, crazy Grandma gives them a magic medicine that takes them on a flying adventure!

Spelling

This week we have been looking at different spelling rules when adding suffixes. The children are becoming more aware of these and applying them in their writing.

Guided Reading

For the last few weeks, children have been enjoying a range of reading activities in small groups. Each group works with an adult, works on a comprehension activity, does a spelling activity and also has some independent reading time.

Maths

We have been making different amounts of money using notes and coins and also looking a different ways to make the same amount. We have been comparing amounts of money too. Calculating with money has been tricky this week!

History

We found out more about why we remember Florence Nightingale. We looked at different sources of evidence to show what Scutari hospital was like before and after Florence arrived. The children were horrified by what Florence discovered!

PE

2La have been enjoying their Northern Arts Dance sessions. This week we introduced some props to our dance for ‘Under the Sea’.
