Reception News – 8.11.25

Welcome back. We hope you had a lovely half term. The children have settled well back into their daily routines.

Phonics

In phonics this week we have learnt the new phonemes – j, v, w and x. Our new hard to read and spell words are – he, she and buses. The children have made a great start in their new phonic booklets.

There is still time to sign up for watching a live phonics lesson. We have limited places on Tuesday 18th November and Thursday 20th November. Plenty of spaces left in January! Please get in touch to book your place.

Maths

This week the children have practised the counting principles with a focus on cardinality (how many objects there are altogether). They have also practised their 1:1 correspondence skill, by counting numbers at the same time as moving or tagging objects.

The key focus this week has been deepening their understanding of 5. The children have represented 5 in different ways using their fingers and a Hungarian number pattern.

Celebrations – Bonfire Night

This week we have been talking about Bonfire Night and why it is celebrated on the 5th November. We have had lots of fun making rockets, painting Bonfire night pictures and creating firework pictures using coloured pastels.

Don’t forget our Bonfire Event is on Monday 8th November at 2.40pm. We are hoping for dry weather so we can be outside, so wrap up warm! If it does rain the event will take place in the infant building hall.

Remembrance Sunday

This week we have talked about Remembrance Sunday and how it is a day to remember and show respect for the men and women who have fought in wars to protect their country and keep us safe. We remember those who served in the past and who serve today.

Reading buddies RKT

This week was the first time 4SL came over to our classroom and read to the children in RKT. They shared books, looked at the pictures and started to get to know their new reading buddies.

Anti Bullying Week

Next week is Anti Bullying week, and we are going to start it off with an ‘odd socks day’ next Monday to show that everybody is unique and special. Please can your child wear odd socks to school on Monday. Thank you.

Everything else…

Have a super weekend and we will see you on Monday.
